Jimbo Fisher liked what he saw from Max Johnson and his defensive front to contain KJ Jefferson, as the Aggies rolled over Arkansas on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do, he did a good job, we’ve got to get better as a team,” Fisher said of Johnson on the SEC Network.

Fisher liked the consistency to play the run for his defense.

“We didn’t allow him to get out and KJ’s so big, we stayed in the rush lanes and got him on the ground,” Fisher said.

Smith’s huge punt return for a touchdown also helped close the deal for the Aggies, and Fisher appreciated it, since Smith was injured in this game last season.

“He needed that, Ainias is our guy, that’s our guy,” Fisher said. “He steps up, he’s the ultimate competitor and does what he has to do when he has to do it and that was huge for us to get the game back in our hands.”

Smith agreed that it’s come full circle since last season.

“I knew just walking into the stadium, it was going to be a special game,” he said on SEC Network. “Coming out, I was just praising God, thanking him, you know what I’m saying. Thanking my parents. The opportunity was just amazing, just to be able to come back from what happened last year. To be able to do what I did, it was amazing.”
