Haynes King had a decent performance in his first game as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback. On Saturday, against Kent State, he was 21-of-33 for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns, but also threw 3 interceptions and was sacked twice.
It could have been better for the redshirt freshman, but it could have been much worse as well. He’ll have an opportunity to build upon the game against the Golden Flashes as the Aggies head out West to play Colorado in a battle between former Big 12 opponents.
“I thought it was excellent,” Jimbo Fisher said on his radio show on Wednesday night, according to TexAgs. “He went through progressions and made reads really well.”
One other thing that Fisher brought up was King’s ability to scramble out of the pocket. On Saturday, King recorded 22 yards on 5 attempts, including a 14-yard run. The No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country in the class of 2020. King rushed for 506 yards and 10 touchdowns on 55 carries as a senior at Longview (Tex.) High School, and Fisher will look to tap into that further.
