Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher was asked to define who Conner Weigman is heading into Week 3 of the Aggies’ 2023 season.

His answer, as most of his answers do, went into detail during the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday:

“I think a guy that’s really starting to grasp what goes on offensively. He’s got great control of things. I think he’s a very competitive guy, very accurate guy, you can see his athleticism and a guy that I think has a tremendous future, I really do. He’s learning how to use his weapons. And each time he gets more saddle time as I say, or experience, it’s just going to get better. Because like you say, he’s only started 6 games in his career. But a guy that’s very productive that can lead you up and down the field and always gives you a chance to win. That is learning how to play with great precision in what he’s doing and just gets better and better and he works hard. He’s a smart guy who’s also very instinctive and I think has a tremendous future.”

This isn’t just coach-speak. Weigman, even despite the Aggies’ loss to Miami on Saturday, has looked the part so far for Texas A&M.

What stands out about Weigman is exactly what Fisher mentioned to start off: His poise and control. He is supremely confident this season, it’s obvious. And for a quarterback, that’s a great sign.

It helps when you have some of the top receivers in the SEC to back you up. Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas and Ainias Smith have all had strong starts to the 2023 season, especially Stewart who is sitting at 19 receptions for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns prior to the start of Week 3.

Weigman deserves the credit in getting him the ball, though. The sophomore QB has thrown for 572 yards, 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions so far in 2023.

Texas A&M looks to bounce back from Saturday’s loss to the Hurricanes against UL Monroe. They 2 face off at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
