Despite several injuries throughout fall camp and the first month of the season, Texas A&M’s defense is on the mend.

Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher discussed the injury status of three defenders during his Monday press conference, giving mostly good news. Sophomore safety Keldrick Carper will return to practice this week, while sophomore cornerback Clifford Chattman and junior defensive end Micheal Clemons are progressing in their respective recoveries.

Carper hasn’t played in Texas A&M’s last two games — a win against Louisiana-Monroe and a loss at No. 1 Alabama.

Fisher said Chattman, who has missed the entire season due to an undisclosed injury, is still “a couple weeks out” but is “healing well.”

Clemons suffered a foot injury in fall camp but should return soon to bolster the Aggies’ defensive front.

“From a healing standpoint, I think he’s very, very close,” Fisher said. “So it’s just a matter of doctors and the pain tolerance of what he can take, from what I understand.”

Though Chattman and Clemons don’t appear to be quite ready to play, Texas A&M (2-2, 0-1 SEC) should have Carper back when it takes on Arkansas (1-3, 0-1) at noon Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
