As is the case with several SEC teams, one of the biggest question marks for Texas A&M entering this season is its quarterback situation. Sophomore Kellen Mond will get the first shot at starting behind center for the Aggies.

On Wednesday in the SEC teleconference, coach Jim Fisher explained why Mond is receiving the nod to start ahead of fellow sophomore Nick Starkel.

  • He’s (Mond) been very consistent in his play and I think he’s played very well from the pocket. Not that they didn’t with Nick (Starkel), but I just think he had a better camp.
  • He’s (Mond) worked very hard, he understands defenses and protections much better. … I’m proud of the work he’s done.

However, Fisher did go on to say he’s also comfortable with Starkel, and that there is no “set script” for how much each quarterback will play.

Texas A&M will be one of the first teams in action not only in the SEC but across all of college football this weekend. The Aggies will host Northwestern State on Thursday night.
