Texas A&M is down another key defender for the upcoming Gator Bowl as Jimbo Fisher announced on Thursday that safety Donovan Wilson is officially out for the game. By missing the game, Wilson’s Aggie career has come to an end.
The senior defensive back started 11 games for Texas A&M this season and been a starter for the Aggies for three seasons. Wilson finished the season with 66 tackles on the year, good for second-best on the team.
According to Fisher, hernia surgery is what will keep Wilson out of the game.
With Wilson sidelined for the game, Texas A&M will now be without the team’s top two leading tacklers for the Gator Bowl. It was announced earlier this week that linebacker Otaro Alaka would also miss the game. Alaka led the Aggies in tackles this season.
Following a 13-tackle performance in the team’s win over LSU in the regular season finale, Wilson was honored with the Aggie Heart Award and the Defensive Leadership Award.
Texas A&M is set to play N.C. State on Monday, Dec. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
