Jimbo Fisher says it’s ‘very hard’ to simulate Tennessee QB Joe Milton’s arm strength

Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M will face one of the biggest arms in all of college football this weekend in Joe Milton and Tennessee.

Combine Milton’s arm with some talented options at wide receiver and it makes slowing down the Vols’ offense a difficult task. But Fisher is going to do his best to get the Aggies defense prepared to take on Tennessee.

During the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday, Fisher explained the measures he’s taking in practice this week to get his defense ready to face the Vols.

“There are very few guys who can, it’s very hard,” Fisher said. “You’ve got to try to get your scout-team guys, or when you’re doing good on good with your guys trying to make sure you do it. And build drills in to where they make them run farther. And you might have cover up here or a quarterback throwing to a guy that’s 20 yards down the field, and let him get an extra 20 where they’re still throwing it 40, but you have already ran 60. You’ve got to get used to seeing the ball in that time. Not many guys can throw it that far, but your mechanism sometimes for the DBs, they get 50, 55, 60 yards, they go OK, I got to be here and then the ball keeps going another 10 or 12 yards. It’s very tough and it’s different.”

Texas A&M is looking for a bounce-back game after losing to Alabama last week. Meanwhile for the Vols, they are fresh off of a bye week and looking to continue their momentum after a dominant win over South Carolina.
