Joe Burrow becomes just 5th FBS QB to surpass 5,000 yards passing, 50 passing TDs in season

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow doesn’t look like he’s going to be stopped anytime soon.
The Heisman Trophy winner surpassed another impressive benchmark Saturday against the Oklahoma Sooners. Burrow surpassed 5,000 passing yards in the first half against the Sooners, and he became just the 17th signal caller to surpass that mark in FBS history.
Burrow also passed 50 passing touchdowns in the first half, making him just the fifth FBS quarterback to hit both marks in the same season. He joins B.J. Symons (Texas Tech, 2003), Colt Brennan (Hawaii, 2006), David Klingler (Houston, 1990) and Derek Carr (Fresno State, 2013).
So far, Burrow has thrown for 291 yards and five touchdowns against the Sooners … in the first half!
Burrow’s magical season already landed him the Heisman Trophy, and he’ll potentially become the NFL Draft’s overall pick this spring. With a win over the Sooners, LSU and Burrow will advance to the College Football Playoff championship game against either Ohio State or Clemson.
The Tigers currently lead Oklahoma 35-7 in the second quarter.
