Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals have struggled out of the gate in 2023.
And for all their problems, it seems the chief concern right now is concerning the former LSU QB’s calf injury, which Burrow aggravated during the Bengals’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Following the game, Burrow himself noted that his calf is “pretty sore” and that he will be taking things day-by-day moving forward.
It goes without saying: That’s the last thing Cincinnati needs right now.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Burrow’s statement on Monday, telling reporters that it’s “hard to say” whether Burrow will play next Monday night against the Rams in Week 3.
Bengals’ HC Zac Taylor told reporters that it was hard to say whether Joe Burrow would be ready to play next Monday night vs. the Rams due to his aggravated calf injury. The Bengals still are in the evaluation process.

The effects of Burrow’s injury are obvious. The 4th-year QB has only thrown for 304 yards, a pair of touchdowns and an interception through the first 2 games of the season. Of course, both ended in the loss column.
Rushing Burrow back to the field would be unwise with these numbers in mind. For reference, Cincinnati’s backup is currently Jake Browning, who has been with the Bengals organization since 2021 after leaving his college, Washington, in 2018.
