Joe Burrow the next Joe Montana? Colin Cowherd believes standard for QBs has changed

Joe Burrow a “modern-day Joe Montana?” That’s a comparison that former NFL quarterback and current CBS analyst Phil Simms recently made on “Inside the NFL.” It’s a high compliment for Burrow, the former LSU quarterback now having success with the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, is it as much of a compliment as it used to be? The NFL game has changed a lot since Montana was under center, and FOX Sports radio host Colin Cowherd thinks there may be a new standard for what quarterbacks should strive to reach, which he discussed on “The Herd” on Friday.
“That’s really not the standard of what I’m looking for. And I love Joe Montana,” Cowherd said on the show. “What I’m looking for is [Patrick] Mahomes and Josh Allen — 6-4, 6-5, 6-6, wildly powerful arm, plus mobility, can run around. …
“If Joe Burrow’s comp is Joe Montana, I think in 2021 football you win a lot of games, you probably don’t win a Super Bowl.”

No matter who Burrow is similar to, he’s been performing well in his second NFL season. Through 6 games, he’s passed for 1,540 yards, 14 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He’s also led the Bengals to a 4-2 start, which has them in the AFC North title race.
Burrow will look to keep his impressive start going when Cincinnati takes on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
