Joe Milton assesses play of Nico Iamaleava vs. UConn: ‘Nico’s a baller, man’
Joe Milton likes what he saw from freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava on Saturday against UConn.
The former 5-star and No. 2 player in the country got the most reps he’s seen in a game for Tennessee on Saturday, and he managed to pick up 86 yards and a touchdown on his 2 drives. He also picked up a big run for 25 yards.
After the game, the starter, Milton, had high praise for him.
“I mean Nico’s a baller, man,” Milton said in Tennessee’s postgame press conference. “Y’all know that. Every opportunity he gets at practice, he makes sure he treats all the opportunities as real, so when that game time does come, you never know what could happen. He’ll be ready for his moment.”
But Milton also saw some things to work on, and he said that he planned to address those with Iamaleava shortly after Saturday’s game.
“I felt like he did good. There’s also things to learn from, but we’ll go over that today,” Milton said. “What time is it? 4 o’ clock? We’ll go over that at like 4:10 when we get to the house.”
Iamaleava still has plenty of time to learn before he takes over as Tennessee’s starter next season, but he is on the right track and has the benefit of learning from a seasoned quarterback in Milton.
