The Texas Longhorns enter the 2025 season as the top-ranked team in college football, and being at the top of the sport is something very familiar to the marquee program from the Lone Star State.
The Longhorns boast a rich tradition of excellence that few college programs can match, and this is especially true when it comes to the number of legendary players and coaches who have worn the burnt orange over the decades.
Fox CFB analyst Joel Klatt is a student of the game, and recently set out to name his all-time Texas team, featuring legends from across the history of Longhorns football.
Klatt didn’t do the traditional all-time team in which he picked a player from each position and a coach, but instead opted to pick a QB, running back, defensive player, and head coach.
Quarterback and head coach were very easy decisions for Klatt, as he chose the two men responsible for leading Texas to their most recent national title in Mack Brown and Vince Young, the latter of which Klatt described as the “single greatest college football player he ever played against.”
For running back, Klatt went with the last man to hoist the Heisman Trophy as a Longhorn in Ricky Williams, a tailback who dominated the collegiate landscape in the mid to late-90s.
Lastly, Klatt went a little further back in the halls of Texas history and chose legendary linebacker Tommy Nobis, who led the Horns to their 1963 national title, and was the first overall pick in the 1966 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
As far as all-time teams go, Klatt made some very elite selections, and it’s hard to argue against any one of the names he picked. If things go well this year, then there could be a couple more Longhorns who place their names up next to the legends Klatt mentions here.
