Joel Klatt of FOX Sports recently previewed all of the upcoming bowl action in college football. Klatt referenced the upcoming Peach Bowl matchup between Penn State and Ole Miss as a game that feels like a “first-round game in 2024.”
Klatt is of course referring to the 12-team Playoff that will replace the current 4-team format next season.
“The way these 2 teams have recruited and set themselves up for next season specifically,” Klatt stated. “Not going to shock me if both of these teams are in the College Football Playoff as we expand to 12. I could see this being a matchup in the first round next year, there’s no doubt.”
The Nittany Lions went 10-2 in the 2023 regular season, as did the Rebels. As Klatt mentioned, both of these teams have done well at recruiting for the 2024 cycle. The Nittany Lions currently have the No. 14 class, while the Rebels have the No. 21 class. The Rebels have also killed it in the transfer portal, earning the No. 1 transfer portal class thus far.
The Rebels and Nittany Lions are slated to kick off from Atlanta in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30 at noon ET. This will be the first-ever meeting between the 2 schools.
