4-star DB Joel Williams explains his decommitment from Florida, says Alabama has been reaching out every day

While it has happened before, it’s not often that a Baton Rouge defensive back picks Florida over LSU in recruiting. That’s what Joel Williams did this spring but once Alabama entered the picture for the talented Louisiana defensive back, that threw a big wrench in his entire recruitment.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Madison Prep Academy prospect currently ranks as the No. 303 overall recruit and the No. 17 athlete in the nation for the 2020 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The four-star defensive back originally committed to Florida over LSU and Tennessee on May 19, during an unofficial visit to Gainesville. On June 2, Williams landed an offer from Alabama following a camp appearance in Tuscaloosa and on June 10, he officially decommitted from the Gators.
During his appearance at the 2019 Rivals 5-star Challenge Camp, Williams explained his recent decision to decommit from the Gators.
“I’ve been loving Alabama since I was young and I just needed more time — I really needed more time because I want to be 100 percent on my decision,” Williams said.
When it comes to Alabama, now that they have offered the Baton Rouge native, they appear relentless in their pursuit of Williams.
“They show a lot of love, they text me every day. They text me every day since I [visited],” Williams added.
