Is that Hendon Hooker out there for Tennessee?
Okay, maybe not; but Joey Aguilar can certainly spin the football, folks. The App State transfer and Vols receiver Braylon Staley connected for a beautiful touchdown pass at the start of the 2nd quarter Saturday, good for 73 yards and a 24-7 Tennessee lead. The score is Aguilar’s first touchdown pass as a Volunteer.
I’ll just let the video speak for itself here. Look at this beauty:
Aguilar comes to Tennessee with an up and down career throwing the football, but he’s been great today for the Vos – especially with that throw. After sailing a few passes early, Aguilar has really started to settle into the game as Tennessee lines up with much tighter formations than they did a year ago. Nico Iamaleava sure wasn’t doing this last season, folks.
A tip of the hat to Staley as well, who has stepped up in a major way to start the 2025 season. Wide receiver was (and, perhaps, still is) a bit of a question mark for the Vols heading into the season, but Staley now leads all receivers with 2 receptions for 87 yards and the above touchdown.
The Vols lead Syracuse 24-7 with just under 9 minutes remaining in the 2nd half. Tennessee’s defense is starting to have some trouble with the Orange passing attack – let’s see how this one develops as we near halftime.
