Quarterback turned wide receiver Joey Gatewood now hopes the 4th time can be the charm.

The former quarterback at Auburn and Kentucky who became a wide receiver at UCF is heading to the transfer portal for greener pastures, yet again, according to On3โ€™s Matt Zenitz.

Gatewood began his collegiate career at Auburn, where he arrived as a highly touted quarterback prospect out of Jacksonville, Florida.

But after 2 seasons buried on the depth chart on The Plains, Gatewood transferred to Kentucky for 1 year, which was the shortened COVID season in 2020.

Gatewood then transferred to UCF, back to his home state, where he spent the previous 2 seasons and was converted to wide receiver.

Gatewood played his high school ball at Bartram Trail High School in Florida, where he was a 4-star prospect.

He was the No. 46 overall recruit during the 2018 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all 4 major recruiting media companies.

Now, all these years later, the 6-5, 220-pound Gatewood is heading elsewhere, somewhere to be determined, in the hopes of finally finding the success that he had as a high school star.
