John Calipari is one of the best coaches in all of college basketball.

It was announced Tuesday that he will be receiving the John R. Wooden Award Coaching Legends Honor in April of 2024.

Calipari responded on X stating that winning the award was special because of the relationship the Kentucky coach has with the Wooden family.

Recipients are chosen based on character, success on court, graduation rate, coaching philosophy, and identification with the goals of the Wooden Award.

“To receive an honor in John Wooden’s name is really special to me because he not only is the greatest coach of all-time, but because of the relationship I developed with his family over the years,” said Wooden. “His daughter, Nan, and he have been so kind to me. I look forward to April and hopefully having a Player of the Year candidate there with me.”

Calipari’s record at Kentucky is 387-113. He has won 6 SEC Tournaments and reached the Final Four 4 times while at Kentucky. His Kentucky team during the 2011-2012 season won the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. No. 3 Kansas State won by a score of 75-69. Kansas State went on to the Elite 8 before losing to FAU.

The 2023-2024 season starts on Nov. 6 as Kentucky faces New Mexico State in Lexington.
