One of Kentucky basketball’s sharpshooters is dealing with an ankle issue, as was revealed by head basketball coach John Calipari this week.

“Bad news is CJ Fredrick, who has been playing as well as anyone – making shots, low turnovers, great defensive presence – turned his ankle and is out for a few days,” Calipari tweeted. “Unfortunately, the scouts won’t be able to see him and the incredible progress he’s made. Happy it’s not serious!”

Frederick sustained an injury ahead of Kentucky’s preseason pro day, which isn’t advantageous for those looking out for him in the NBA Draft. The Iowa transfer previously averaged 8.8 points per game over 52 starts with the Hawkeyes, but wasn’t able to showcase all of his talent for the entirety of last season with a leg injury that he underwent surgery for before the 2021 season.

Frederick had a standout 2021 season and will look to build upon that as he projects as a player who will be successful at the next level.
