John Metchie missed the entirety of his rookie season in Houston with the Texans. The former star Alabama wide receiver was diagnosed with a form of leukemia (acute promyelocytic leukemia) in July, putting his football career in jeopardy from the jump.
But Metchie and the NFL received wonderful news Wednesday morning. Metchie returned to the field and was seen taking part in offseason workouts.
Everyone liked that.
This is great: #Texans WR John Metchie is back on the field for offseason workouts.
Metchie was diagnosed with a form of leukemia in July and missed his entire rookie year. Houston traded up to get him in the 2nd-round.
Looks like he’s on his way back. ?

There’s not a single fan in the NFL that wants to see Metchie fail. He was a top receiver for Alabama for 3 seasons and was expected to be a major factor for the Texans’ ongoing rebuild. His reappearance on the field is an excellent sign for his return timetable.
It’s hard not to think about a potential reunion of Metchie and Bryce Young in Houston, too. While it seems likely Young could be off the board No. 1 in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Texans hold the No. 2 pick and are widely believed to be selecting a quarterback.
Crazier things have happened.
