Jon Sumrall hires Tulane DC as position coach on Florida staff, per report
New Florida head coach Jon Sumrall is settling back into having one job, as his Tulane squad fell to Ole Miss in the opening round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday.
With the Green Wave’s 2025 campaign now officially wrapped up, Sumrall can shift his full focus to leading the UF program, as he’s been working both positions ever since he was hired as the Gators’ next head man in late November.
And following the conclusion of Tulane’s season, Sumrall was also able to begin hiring some of his former assistant coaches to join him in the Sunshine State.
According to reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, among the staff additions is departing Tulane defensive coordinator Greg Gasparato, who will take on a role as inside linebackers coach at Florida.
Gasparato lacks SEC experience but has plenty of familiarity with Sumrall and how he likes to run a program. The Wofford alum worked as DC under Sumrall while at Troy in 2023, even serving as the school’s interim coach for the 2023 Birmingham Bowl when his boss took the Tulane job at the end of that season.
Having also coached in assistant roles at places like Appalachian State, Army, Louisville and Cincinnati, Gasparato brings with him plenty of experience working in a variety of roles. His only previous work as a linebackers coach at the FBS level came with the Cardinals in 2022.
