Could Jonah Williams flip positions based on which QB Alabama plays? Tide tackle offers up his take

Alabama is in the unique position of having two quarterbacks that it feels comfortable playing and knowing that both are capable of huge performances on the field. However, there is one added wrinkle that may force the Crimson Tide to assign a starting quarterback earlier than most quarterback battles — Jalen Hurts throws with his right arm, Tua Tagovailoa throws with his left arm.

The offense in Tuscaloosa could be altered by the fact the two players do not throw with the same arm. That’s something that starting left tackle Jonah Williams was asked about during his most recent media availability.

Could Alabama’s left tackle be asked to jump back to the right side if Tagovailoa wins the starting QB duties? After all, Williams is supposed to be the blindside blocker for the offense.

“I’m not going to say there’s no chance, because like I said, we want the five best out there but I’m very comfortable playing left tackle,” Williams answered in a video posted by Charlie Potter of Alabama 247Sports.

“I haven’t taken a snap elsewhere in two years. So I’m comfortable playing there, I enjoy playing there. I think I had a good season last year (at left tackle after switching from right tackle) but I’m a harsh critic, and I know there’s a ton I can improve on, so I’m just looking to get better at that position.”

Based on that answer, the ongoing quarterback competition is unlikely to affect the offensive line duties in Tuscaloosa. At the very least, that’s the way Williams sees it playing out.
