The World Cup kicks off in just a few months, and Jordan-Hare Stadium has been selected as the location for a friendly between Argentina and Iceland just 2 days before it all gets started.
Iceland and Argentina will square off on June 9, but this is more than just a date to circle for Auburn athletics. It’s also a revenue-sharing opportunity.
According to Auburn writer Justin Hokanson, the upside for Auburn athletics could reach as high as $2 million thanks to ticket sales and more. Tickets for the event could go for north of $300 for lower-level seats and $45 for end-zone sets.
Of course, Lionel Messi — one of the most recognized soccer players in the world — will suit up for Argentina against Iceland, which means Auburn fans could be able to grab a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see him in action at Jordan-Hare. Argentina won the World Cup in 2022 with a thrilling victory over Kylian Mbappe and France, and they’re among the top favorites to win it again in 2026.
As it currently stands, France, England, Spain and Argentina are considered frontrunners according to Kalshi. Here’s a look at the full odds as we near closer to June 2026:
