The SEC Nation crew discussed the high-profile coaching openings at Florida and LSU in the wake of the Billy Napier and Brian Kelly dismissals, and turned to the topic of which job is more likely to bear the ultimate fruit of a national championship?
“I would say Florida right now,” analyst Jordan Rodgers said. “We have talked about fit and expectations and all the things going on behind the scenes at LSU with the athletic director and synergy – or lack of synergy. But let’s talk about rosters. I sat in meetings (Friday) with this Georgia coaching staff, and they were just marveling at the young talent this Florida team has on the offensive side on the ball.”
Rodgers pointed out young Gators standouts like quarterback DJ Lagway, running back Jadan Baugh and wide receivers Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III – the latter being unavailable against the 5th-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday (3:30 pm ET, ABC) with a shoulder strain – as attractive parts that could remain in Gainesville given the right hire that exploit their skills.
“If you can find a coach that can fit this culture, fit this scheme and bring an offensive flair that wants to keep those guys around – there are a lot of pieces here at Florida that can win right away if you get the right guy.”
