Josh Heupel doesn’t care that the Vols were up big against Ball State Thursday. He’s treating every snap like it’s Alabama out there.
Coming out of the locker room Thursday, Heupel addressed his team up 38-0:

This has to get Vols fans fired up. Heck, I’m ready to run through a brick wall.
And during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference, Heupel explained the philosophy into that locker room speech. He’s not trying to be cruel. He’s instilling fierce competition as an expectation at Tennessee, every down.
“I think, you know with whether you’re up or down, you’re trying to focus on playing each play independently and competing in a fierce way,” Heupel said, via Footbalscoop.com. “I thought our kids did that on Thursday.”
Heupel and the No. 24 Vols will carry that energy to Pittsburgh this week. Tennessee battles No. 17 Pitt in a rematch of last year’s Johnny Majors Classic.
Round 2 is sure to be a good one.
