Tennessee and Pitt are squaring off at Neyland Stadium on Saturday in the Johnny Majors Classic.
Majors, a Tennessee alum, spent 4 seasons as the head coach of the Panthers following a stint with Iowa State before returning to his alma mater in 1977. He remained there before finishing his head coaching career with a second spell at Pitt.
On the last game of Majors’ 1st season with the Vols in 1977, he introduced an all-orange uniform look, and, in his honor, the team will wear orange jerseys and pants against the Panthers. Majors was known for the suits he wore on the Tennessee sidelines during his career, and first-year head coach Josh Heupel wore a houndstooth suit jacket of his own, complete with an orange tie.
