Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provided an encouraging update on quarterback Joey Aguilar ahead of Saturday’s SEC matchup at Kentucky, confirming that the Vols’ starter will be ready to play despite taking a few hard hits in the loss to Alabama.

“Obviously a couple of hits that Joey took, but he’ll be ready to play on Saturday,” Heupel said on Monday.

Aguilar appeared to deal with some neck discomfort and briefly received medical attention on the sideline during the first half of last week’s game, but finished the game with 28-of-44 completions for 268 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Despite the setback, Tennessee (5-2, 2-2 SEC) remains one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, ranking No. 10 in total offense (478.7 yards per game). Aguilar’s health will be key as the Vols look to bounce back against a Kentucky team struggling offensively but capable defensively.

Kickoff between No. 11 Tennessee and Kentucky is set for 7:45 p.m. ET Saturday on SEC Network.
