Former Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs was named the starter for the Steelers’ preseason Friday night game against the Giants.
Head coach Mike Tomlin announced the news Wednesday during his press conference.
Backup QB Landry Jones was slated to start but is out with an injury.
“Josh Dobbs is getting the opportunity to start at quarterback for us. One man’s misfortunate is another man’s opportunity,” Tomlin said. “I know he’s excited about it, I know I’m excited about watching him play quarterback position for that group and lead us in that way.”
Tomlin later went on to say, “He’s (Dobbs) a bright-eyed willing worker that appears to be willing to learn from his mistakes. He also appears to learn by watching the mistakes of others, but like a lot of things, we won’t know until we get him into a stadium. It will be good to get him into the stadium on Friday night and watch him in terms of putting his skills on display.”
The former Tennessee QB was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Steelers and Giants kick off Friday night at 7:00 pm ET on NFL Network, and one thing is for sure: the state of Tennessee will be tuning in Friday night.
