JT Daniels has high expectations for Bryce Young: ‘He’s a stud, he’s a star player’
JT Daniels and Bryce Young go back a long way.
The two California natives have had a close relationship dating back to their middle school days and now are set to lead arguably the two biggest football programs in the Southeastern Conference this fall.
Considering their relationship, it’s no surprise to see Daniels hype up Young during his appearance at 2021 SEC Media Days. According to Daniels, that’s something he’s been doing for years.
If you were unaware, after Daniels graduated from Mater Dei High School in California, he was replaced in the starting lineup by Young.
During his Tuesday appearance at Media Days, Daniels was asked to share his thoughts on Young’s talent on the football field.
“He’s a stud, he’s a star player,” Daniels said. “When I had left Mater Dei and they got Bryce, I had known Bryce since I was an eighth-grader and he was a seventh-grader, I knew back then he was a special player. So when Mater Dei got him, I was really excited.
“I told MaxPreps he would be the best quarterback in the country by the time he was a junior in high school just because I’ve seen him play and thought he was a really good player. I expect a lot of success for Bryce.”
