You expect to see standard deals for players selected as early in the second round as Phillips was, but it’s nevertheless encouraging to see the Bulls commit to giving him a chance with the organization.
He scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting (3-of-3 from deep) on Tuesday in the team’s 107-99 win over the Sacramento Kings in Summer League action.
Phillips was named to the SEC All-Freshman team last season after averaging 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 41.1% shooting from the floor. The 6-foot-8 forward reached double figures scoring on 13 occasions, including a season-high 25 points on Nov. 24 against USC.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
