Roy Philpott was on the broadcast of Alabama’s spring game, and leading up to the game, Philpott gathered some info from Nick Saban and the coaching staff about the incoming star recruit at running back.

Philpott during a segment on WJOX on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” said it was fun to see all the coaches react when they asked them about Haynes. While Saban was somewhat measured, it was clear to Philpott that Haynes is expected to be the next big-time running back with the Crimson Tide.

“I think everybody over there on campus knows the hand they’ve been dealt with No. 22,” Philpott said. “He’s the real deal. He looks like a 5th-year senior, and the low center of gravity, check all boxes at running back. But most importantly, he’s intelligent and he gets the position, and I think he understands the offense as best as he can just 15 practices in. I think he’s going to be the next big thing in Tuscaloosa. I think it’s going to happen this year, guys, I really do.”

A 5-star running back out of Buford, Georgia, Haynes was ranked the 23rd player nationally and as the No. 3 running back and the No. 2 player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite.
