Justin Edwards met with reporters in Lexington on Friday ahead of Kentucky’s pivotal matchup with Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.
Edwards confirmed he’s been dealing with a quad injury since before the Arkansas game. Edwards, who suffered the injury while Kentucky was scrimmaging in practice after the loss to South Carolina, played just 9 minutes against the Razorbacks and was held out of UK’s loss to Florida earlier this week.
However, Edwards indicated he is optimistic about being able to suit up on Saturday vs. the Vols.
“I feel better,” Edwards said Friday. “I plan on practicing today. I’ve been doing recovery ever since [the injury]. So I’m just taking it day-by-day and hopefully I’ll be able to play Saturday.”
John Calipari changed up Kentucky’s practice routine to include 5-on-5 scrimmages after the loss to South Carolina. Edwards’ injury was an unfortunate consequence of that decision.

Edwards has played a significant role for Kentucky this season. He’s started 18 games and is averaging 7.7 points per contest. He’s also been a strong defender, averaging 0.8 steals per game so far in 2023-24.
Kentucky and Tennessee are two of the top contenders in the SEC so far this season. However, the Wildcats have lost 2 of their last 3 games and likely can’t afford another loss if they want to stay in the hunt for the SEC regular season title.
Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night in Lexington.
