A report Monday night that Justin Fields will transfer from Georgia sent shockwaves throughout the college football world. While there have been reports of where he might land, Fields hasn’t made a departure from UGA official just yet.
Seth Emerson of The Athletic is reporting that Fields is not yet in the NCAA’s transfer portal (which would allow other schools to contact him). One Georgia freshman, however, is in the portal: TE Luke Ford.
Ford was not at Georgia’s Monday Sugar Bowl practice. Coach Kirby Smart confirmed that Ford is in Illinois with family.
A player can put their name in the NCAA’s transfer portal and not actually transfer, but being in the portal allows other coaches to contact the player. While losing Ford, a former 4-star recruit ranked the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2018 class, would be significant, it’s safe to say all eyes are on Fields, the No. 2 recruit of the class.
As of early this afternoon, Justin Fields was not in the NCAA transfer portal, according to someone with direct knowledge, but freshman tight end Luke Ford is in the portal. Fields still expected to be in the portal sometime today.
More coming soon …
