Kalen DeBoer’s transition from head coach at Washington to taking the reins at Alabama was an incredibly quick one.
When it came to replacing the legendary Nick Saban in mid-January, the leaders in Tuscaloosa didn’t waste much time. Saban’s retirement was official on Jan. 10, and DeBoer was announced on Jan. 12.
Ahead of this weekend’s big game at home against No. 2 Georgia, DeBoer detailed his hiring process in an interview with The Triple Option podcast, hosted by Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram and Rob Stone of Fox Sports:
The way DeBoer tells it, he was interviewed on Thursday and offered the job on Friday. Less than a week after his Washington Huskies fell in the national championship to Michigan, he was introducing himself to the Crimson Tide’s players as their next head coach.

Alabama is off to a 3-0 start under DeBoer in the post-Saban era with wins over Western Kentucky, South Florida and Wisconsin. The Tide’s game on Saturday against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on ABC will be his SEC debut as Alabama’s head coach.
