Kalen DeBoer is entering his 2nd season at Alabama, and the Crimson Tide are prepared to play another strong nonconference slate in 2025.

Last season, Alabama made a trip to Wisconsin to conclude its nonconference schedule against a Big Ten foe, and the Tide will host the Badgers in a return game this season, along with a road trip to face Florida State in the season opener. While both of those programs struggled in 2024, they are among the longstanding traditional power programs in the country.

While at SEC Media Days, DeBoer was asked about those nonconference games and the future prospects that Alabama will continue scheduling such games if the SEC moves to a 9-game league schedule. The head coach admitted the idea is beyond him, but he is also adamant about maintaining an elite strength of schedule.

To DeBoer, the Crimson Tide will not turn down a chance to play additional high-end games, so we’ll see if that indeed continues with any future changes.

“Right now, that’s above me. I know there’s questions that get asked the coaches and as you work with your athletic directors. That’s beyond me right now. I know there are a lot of pros when you talk about strength of schedule and I’m all for that,” said DeBoer. “You look at our schedule this year, and that was built out years back as well, but we’re playing Florida State, Wisconsin.

“We’re all about playing as many high-end games as you possibly can, and certainly adding another game to the SEC schedule would accomplish that.”
