Alabama roared back from a season-opening loss with a 73-0 rout of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, and head coach Kalen DeBoer broke down the Play of the Game that highlighted the Crimson Tide’s dominance.
Quarterback Ty Simpson was the catalyst, completing 17 consecutive passes, three for touchdowns and throwing for 226 yards. DeBoer went through one of Simpson’s two TD passes to wide receiver Germie Bernard in the first quarter.
“First drive of the game moved the ball inside the 30,” the Alabama coach said. “Just an opportunity with some pocket movement, which is really an important part of our offense. The thing that sticks out at me is Rich Young coming across. They’re bringing the pressure off the edge here, and him just physically getting the job done. Understanding his responsibility, trusting and knowing where he needs to go.
DeBoer added, “Ty doing a good job staying disciplined on his read progression. Some of those throws are sometimes the hardest ones, but he and Germ getting the job done and getting us off to a real good start at the start of the game.”
The Crimson Tide now turns its attention to Wisconsin in Week 3 with a noon ET kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
