Alabama exited the Third Saturday in October with a 5-2 record, including a loss to Vanderbilt. The Tide had obvious flaws, especially on defense, and for the moment they were on the wrong side of the CFP bubble.
How things have changed. The Tide have since rattled offer wins against Mizzou and LSU, and moved one step closer to the Playoff with a routine win over Mercer on Saturday.
Following the game, head coach Kalen DeBoer highlighted the senior leadership that helped aid that jump in production. Alabama feels like a different team now compared to then, and according to DeBoer it starts with those leaders in practice and in the locker room.
Here’s what DeBoer said following the game:
Kalen DeBoer: “As we get to the latter half of the season, we’ve really honed in on more and more leaders stepping up. … The intensity in practice, there’s a focus that they bring, a businesslike approach.”

Alabama is 2 wins away from finishing the regular season with a very strong resume, one that is certainly comparable to the remainder of the teams in the race for a Playoff spot.
Oklahoma is up next for the Tide, sitting at 5-5 on the season and still in search of a bowl berth. Next week’s matchup is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
