Kalen DeBoer gives update on hospitalized Alabama LB Jah-Marien Latham
As of Wednesday morning, Alabama linebacker Jah-Marien Latham remains at UAB St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.
The graduate defensive player was taken to the hospital on Tuesday following a neck injury in practice. A statement from head coach Kalen DeBoer on Tuesday said that Latham had full “feeling and motion” and was going through a comprehensive round of medical exams in Birmingham. On Wednesday, DeBoer told reporters those evaluations are ongoing.
“Continuing to get evaluated,” DeBoer said, per AL.com’s Nick Kelly. “Will probably know more here in the next 48 hours. Most importantly, he’s got motion and feeling. Just texted with him this morning. He told me to tell the guys he’s doing well. Just more tests and more things we’ve got to evaluate. That’s the latest on him.”
Latham has been with the program since 2020. He has appeared in 44 games across his 5 seasons now with the team. Latham recorded 2 tackles in the season-opening loss to Florida State but was unavailable for the games against UL-Monroe and Wisconsin because of a different injury. He was listed on the team’s depth chart as a co-starter along with Qua Russaw at the Wolf outside linebacker position.
In his absence over the last 2 games, Yhonzae Pierre has filled the No. 2 spot.
Last season, Latham recorded 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
