Kalen DeBoer is filling out his Alabama staff with many experienced coaches, and now the Crimson Tide staff will have a second sitting FBS join his staff.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg and Chris Low reported that Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist will be a defensive assistant, likely coaching the secondary. DeBoer previously reportedly hired South Alabama coach Kane Wommack to be the defensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa.
Linguist previously coached at Iowa State, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Texas A&M and the Dallas Cowboys. At all of those jobs, he coached either defensive backs, safeties or cornerbacks. He played at Baylor as a safety. He also had a brief stint at Michigan coaching the defensive backs and as co-defensive coordinator.
At Buffalo, Linguist was 14-23 record and reached the Camellia Bowl, a win over Georgia Southern, in 2022 after a 7-6 season in 2022. Buffalo was 3-9 in the 2023 season.
Alabama is expected to hire Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist as a defensive assistant, likely working with the secondary, sources tell @ClowESPN and me. Linguist, who finished his third season at UB, is the second sitting FBS head coach to join Kalen DeBoer’s defensive staff.
