After several years spent mostly on the sideline in the NFL, AJ McCarron is expected to finally get an opportunity to show what he can do on the game’s highest stage.
If you missed the news this week, McCarron won his right to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and is leaving the Bengals organization. While Cincinnati had fought to keep him on the roster for one more season, McCarron won his arbitration against the franchise.
Considering the lack of quality starters on NFL rosters, McCarron should have an opportunity to start, if at the very least compete for a starting spot in a 2018 training camp.
March 12 marks the first period NFL teams can negotiate contracts with free agents and the signing period begins March 14. For what it’s worth, McCarron’s wife Katherine Webb issued her plea to NFL teams to take a chance on him in an Instagram post:
“He was born for this. Any organization would be lucky to get this man and I truly feel this way.”
How much weight NFL teams put into this type of plea seems dubious but at least it’s a classy manner to issue such a statement. Here’s Katherine Webb’s post, which contains her full statement:
