Keion Brooks Jr.: Kentucky’s ‘still in great spirits’ despite loss to Tennessee

Kentucky’s trip to the SEC Tournament ended with some disappointment during a semifinal loss to Tennesse on Saturday.
By all accounts, it was a lackluster showing for the Wildcats. Though they fought back and stayed in the game until the end, Kentucky finished the game with a 34% shooting effort and 2-for-20 mark from 3-point range.
Oscar Tshiebwe did post a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but he fouled out with 3 minutes left in the game. Keion Brooks Jr. led Kentucky with 19 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting performance.
After the game, Brooks was asked about the team’s mindset with the NCAA Tournament still to come. He admitted the team is still in a good frame of mind with March Madness around the corner:
“We’re still in great spirits,” Brooks explained. “Looking forward to what we got coming up next week. We were really, really happy with the way we continued to fight. We could have gave up, and we still pushed it, and still had a chance to win the game, so it’s a tough loss. We hate to lose, but we’re still in good spirits moving forward.”
Brooks also addressed the poor shooting performance and attributed it to just an off day. For the most part, Kentucky had some solid looks that usually go down for the Wildcats:
“I feel like the looks that we got were good,” said Brooks. “It was just one of those days where the ball didn’t go in for us. There were some situations where we didn’t help each other out with getting open to get some of those shots, and sometimes we weren’t shot-ready when the ball was kicked out so us.”
Now, Kentucky will have to wait and find out where the team is seeded to open the NCAA Tournament.
