Tennessee plans to name former Lady Vol Kellie Harper next women’s basketball coach
Now that Tennessee has managed to keep National Coach of the Year Rick Barnes from leaving for UCLA, the school is prepared to announce the next Lady Vols coach as a replacement for Holly Warlick will soon becoming official.
As first reported by Russell Smith of FOX Sports Knoxville, Tennessee will name former Lady Vol Kellie Harper as the next head coach of the Lady Vols. Harper is currently the head coach of Missouri State, a program she led to the Sweet 16 last season.
Harper is a Tennessee native and played point guard for Pat Summitt’s Lady Vols from 1996-1999. During her playing career, the Lady Vols won the national championship three times. Harper has experience coaching at Auburn, UT-Chattanooga and head coaching experience at Western Carolina and NC State in addition to her time at Missouri State.
Harper has a career head coaching record of 285-208. The Lady Vols went 19-13 last season, which led to the firing of Warlick.
