The Kentucky Wildcats had room for another coach on their defensive staff, and they filled that void on Wednesday by hiring former Stanford, Nevada and Cal defensive coordinator Andy Buh.
UK added Buh as its new outside linebackers coach on Wednesday, per a UK Athletics media release. Buh was out of football last season after serving as the DC at Cal in 2013.
“I jumped at the opportunity to be part of (Kentucky head coach) Mark Stoops’ staff,” Buh said in the release. “He’s one of the best defensive coaches in the country and has had remarkable success on that side of the ball.”
Buh’s Cal defense in 2013, his lone year with the Golden Bears, ranked 124th out of 125 FBS teams in total defense. Before working at Cal, he spent a year as the linebackers coach at Wisconsin under then-head coach Bret Bielema, now head coach at Arkansas. Before that he spent three years as the DC at Nevada and before that he spent three years as linebackers coach at Stanford, the latter two years also served as co-defensive coordinator.
“I was looking for a specific fit for this position,” Stoops said in the release. “I wanted someone with defensive coordinator experience who has won on a high level. I’m very pleased with Andy’s level of experience. I believe he’ll be a great asset to our program and defensive staff.”
