Kentucky men’s basketball announced the hiring of a new assistant coach on John Calipari’s staff. The Wildcats added a familiar face to the staff.
Chuck Martin was actually an assistant under Calipari back at Memphis. Martin helped coach NBA ready talent like Derrick Rose while on the Tigers’ staff.
The news was confirmed in a Kentucky press release, here’s what Martin had to say about being reunited with Calipari:
“I’m extremely excited to be reunited with Coach Cal,” Martin said. “I’m looking forward to joining his tremendous staff and being a part of something greater than myself.”
Other recent stops along the way for Martin include Oregon (2022), South Carolina (2017-2022), Indiana (2014-2017) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (2013-2014).
Calipari coached Kentucky to an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats faced Kansas State and lost 75-69.
Martin’s vast experience throughout the world of basketball coaching should do Kentucky some good.
