Kentucky cornerback announces decision to enter NCAA transfer portal

After two years at Kentucky, redshirt freshman cornerback M.J. Devonshire appears to be on the move.
On Thursday, Devonshire announced on Instagram that he has entered the NCAA transfer portal. And based on his post, it seems that he’s leaning toward leaving the Wildcats for another program, as he thanked head coach Mark Stoops and the rest of the Kentucky staff.
“I will forever hold the memories and friendships made while I was there,” Devonshire wrote. “To the brothers I made I know y’all will ball and make it to the top and I can’t wait to see you all there y’all my brothers for life!”
Devonshire had five tackles and a pass deflection in three games in 2019, while also redshirting that season. This year, he had only one tackle and one pass deflection in eight games for the Wildcats.
Devonshire, a 5-foot-11, 182-pound defensive back, was a 3-star recruit in the 2019 class, coming out of Aliquippa (Pa.) HIgh School. He committed and signed with Kentucky on Feb. 6, 2019.
The Wildcats will now be losing some depth in their secondary heading into 2021. However, they ranked first in the SEC with only 220.3 passing yards per game this season, although they went 4-6 and had lost four of five games before winning their regular-season finale against South Carolina.
