No. 12 NCAA Tournament national seed Kentucky has battled its way out of the loser’s bracket to win the Lexington Regional. UK defeated Indiana 4-2 on Monday to advance to the Super Regionals.

It was the third meeting of the regional between the Wildcats and Hoosiers. Indiana claimed the winner’s bracket game, but Kentucky won twice in the regional finals.

It was a 2-2 game in the 6th inning before Hunter Gilliam doubled down the left line to score Devin Burkes.

Gilliam was responsible for 2 RBIs, having plated a run on a sac fly in the 1st inning. In the 6th inning, Ryan Waldschmidt extended Kentucky’s lead to 4-2 with an RBI double, plating Gilliam.

Mason Moore was Kentucky’s winning pitcher. He tossed 5 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits while striking out 5.

The Cats got to celebrate their 2nd ever trip to the Super Regionals in front of a record Kentucky Proud Park crowd of 6,796 fans.

It is Kentucky’s first trip to a Super Regional since 2017. UK will take on No. 5 national seed LSU. In the regular season, the Cats and Tigers split the first 2 games of a weekend series, with LSU winning the rubber game in a 1-run decision.
