Some teams have had to pull out of bowl games this season for various reasons, and there was some speculation on Tuesday that Kentucky could be joining the list, as Brandon Marcello of 247Sports.com tweeted to “keep your eyes” on it. However, it appears that may not be the case.
Josh Moore of the Lexington Herald-Leader shared a statement from a Kentucky spokesperson that indicates the Wildcats are in good shape and will be participating in their Gator Bowl matchup against N.C. State on Jan. 2.
“We practiced yesterday. We practiced today. We are excited about and looking forward to playing in the 2020 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Anything you hear to the contrary needs to be taken up with the source,” a spokesperson told Moore.
Because of COVID-19 testing and contact-tracing protocols, there have been plenty of postponements and cancellations throughout college football in 2020. And now, it’s having an impact on bowl season as well.
But it seems like that may not be an issue for Kentucky as it prepares to play in a bowl for the fifth straight season.
The Wildcats may have lost four of their last six games, but they ended on a high note, beating South Carolina, 41-18, in their regular-season finale. They’ll now look to carry that momentum over into their game against the Wolfpack.
Kentucky and N.C. State are set to kick off at noon ET on Jan. 2 on ESPN.
