In recent weeks, both Kevin Knox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had been rising on many teams’ boards ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft.
On Thursday night in Brooklyn, Knox — a former Kentucky forward — finished that rise by going to the New York Knicks with the No. 9 overall pick.
Knox enters a messy situation in New York, as the Knicks are in the midst of a major rebuild. Star big man Kristaps Porzingis tore his ACL last season and might not be fully healthy for the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
However, they have a new coach in David Fizdale, and Knox should be able to get plenty of playing time. He’s been working on his pick-and-roll game and his ball-handling skills, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares as a rookie.
In 37 games for the Wildcats last season, Knox averaged 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per night.
