Kentucky on Monday saw its rivalry game against Louisville set for Wednesday put on hold as COVID-19 issues have affected the Cardinals program.
Per reports, some teams the Wildcats reached out to for a replacement included Gonzaga, Florida State, and UConn. Now it appears that John Calipari’s team has apparently found an opponent.
CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander first reported, the Wildcats will instead play Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers were originally set to take on Austin Peay on Wednesday but, per Norlander, the Governors are unable to play now.
The game be played for a good cause, too, as both teams will be raising proceeds to aid those that were affected by the devastating tornados that hit the western part of the state. Warren County, where Bowling Green and the WKU campus are located, saw over a dozen people killed as a tornado struck the area.
We will host @WKUBasketball on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena in place of the originally scheduled rivalry game vs. Louisville.
UK Athletics is working on a charitable component from the game that will provide support for those who were affected by the tornadoes. pic.twitter.com/lPhIOgBUxz
