Kentucky’s 2018 recruiting class could break a longstanding streak

Every year since 1939, the UK football team has signed at least one recruit from the state of the Kentucky. That streak could end come National Signing Day.

Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader took a fascinating look at the school’s history of signing in-state talent. The 2018 class, currently at 18 commitments, does not feature a recruit from the Bluegrass State. Ohio (7) and Florida (5) products make for two-thirds of the current class, while pledges also hail from Michigan, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Roberts speculates that the window is closing for the Wildcats to add a Kentucky product to the 2018 class. Jairus Brents, a 4-star cornerback, is the only recruited ranked top 10 in the state of Kentucky by the 247Sports Composite to not commit yet. The Cats have offered, but Brents is showing more interest in Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Florida State.

Roberts’ full dive into Kentucky recruits and UK’s 2018 class can be read here.
