Kenyon Green is excited to stay close to home to start his NFL career as the Humble, Texas native was drafted by the Houston Texans in the first round on Thursday night at No. 15 overall.

“Blessed, truly blessed,” Green, the Texas A&M offensive guard told reporters Thursday night. “I’m home, I’m staying home. It’s time to work. Put my head down and grind. It’s the only thing we can do.”

Green noted that his mother was emotional, and he thanked God as he begins his professional career.

“I’m right down the street and will be ready to play,” he said. “Get there and work. That’s all I’m going to do, work my butt off.”

Green said he hadn’t discussed exactly what position he’ll play with the Texans, but general manager Nick Caserio said he sees him more as a guard than a tackle.

“Wherever they need me at I’m going to go out there and play it,” Green said, per the Associated Press.

Green was widely viewed as one of the top interior offensive linemen in the draft class after he was a season-long captain for the Aggies in 2021. Green played 4 different offensive line positions, starting all 12 games. Green provided key blocks up front in pass protection and opening up holes for Texas A&M ball-carriers.
